The clients had purchased a detached 1920’s house and wished to extend it in an ecologically sound manner. The existing building is set in a market town and the wall surfaces are pebble dash. The client’s intention was that the new extension should be architecturally sympathetic to the existing house and that it would not contrast. A timber frame method was chosen using recycled paper insulation. This achieved an insulation standard for the new walls which were greatly in excess of the current building regulations. Work is still in progress.
